Microsoft has been pushing Windows 10 on to its current user base since it announced the release date for the new OS. Even though the number of people who have upgraded to the new version of Windows is pretty impressive, Microsoft doesn’t think it’s good enough. In order to fix this problem, it is pushing Windows 10 on to people all the more aggressively. Microsoft has now dubbed all updates that will push Windows 10 on to users as ‘Recommended’. This means users will once again have to sit down and hide these updates if they haven’t installed already. If you’re looking for a very quick and very effective way to remove all traces of Windows 10 from your system, Aegis is a little script that you can use.
In order to use Aegis, you must have Administrative rights on the system you’re trying to purge the updates from. Aegis does several things; it turns off all telemetry and WiFi Sense features on Windows 7, 8, and 10. On Windows 7 & 8, it uninstalls all updates that will force Windows 10 on to you and it will block future ones. It also sets updates to never install or download automatically. If you prefer updates to install that way, you can change it after the script has run successfully. If you’re wondering which updates will be removed, here is a complete list. Scroll down to the Windows Update section.
To run the script, simply extract the zip file, right-click and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.
You only need to follow the on-screen instructions. The script handles everything. It does take time to run and since it uninstalls forty seven updates, don’t be surprised if runs for over an hour.
The script will tell you when it’s done. It’s a nine step process and you can tell which step it’s currently executing.
